Esker Hills is renowned for its association with Shane Lowry. Shane had a glittering Amateur career that culminated in him being the first Amateur golfer to ever win the Irish Open. In 2019 Shane went onto win the 148th British Open Championship in Portrush. Lowry is the sixth Irish golfer to win a major championship, and the first since Rory McIlroy in 2014.
The opportunity to win a major on home soil could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for an Irish golfer, and no matter what he goes on to do in the game, this will be the crowning achievement of Shane Lowry’s career, we do not think it is an exaggeration to say this is one of the greatest days in Irish sporting history.
More than 10,000 years ago, the retreating glaciers of the Ice Age created the stunning landscape of plateaux, sweeping valleys, natural lakes and free draining soil on which Esker Hills is built. Add the genius of Christy O’Connor Jnr. and you have a golfing gem in a unique setting with 18 holes of challenging championship golf where no two holes are remotely alike.
The dramatic undulations of valleys and plateau, along with natural lakes and woodland provide wonderful design features throughout the course. Noted for its distinct links feel, superb sand based greens and warm welcome, Esker Hills continues to receive rave reviews as the ultimate golfing test, and one that you will certainly remember.

There are four Par-3 at Edenderry each of which has its own challenge. Mullingar Golf Club has been part and parcel of Irish golf since 1894. During its first forty years the club moved ‘house’ on no less than five occasions. In 1935 the club finally settled on the magnificent rolling hills at Belvedere where it has been ever since. It is regarded as one of the best of James Braid’s finest designs.
Mullingar’s championship status was formerly recognised in 1952 when it hosted the Irish Professional Championship, and again in 1959 and 1965. The Irish matchplay championship was played at Mullingar in 1972. Set in old wooded and delightfully undulating parklands, the course has recently been extended and re-bunkered to ensure it maintains the championship status it attained when hosting the Irish Professional Championship on three occasions.
The course is also venue for the internationally famous Mullingar Scratch Cup. Winners include Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley.
