Tullamore in The Past: Tullamore, Ireland’s most central town was the unlikely location of the world’s first aviation disaster. Way back in 1785, a wayward hot air balloon the craze of the aristocracy at the time, crashed and burnt a large portion of the town. The town was rebuilt with wide streets and open squares, this along with the thriving local whiskey distilling industry and later the arrival of the Grand Canal, created a Phoenix like rise from the ashes – every year the town celebrates this unique event with a festival of fire, colour, culture and extreme events. click here for more details
