Family Reunion/Clan Rally

Have you ever thought it would be fun to organise a family reunion of relatives from far and near.  The Tullamore Court Hotel were recently honoured to host such an event for the O'Brien Family, we wanted to share the experience with you and would be delighted to help anyone interested in their own family gathering.

A short case study to follow of how the O'Brien family tree came about...

In June 2011 a lady named Breid took on an immense project to establish her O'Brien family tree. The idea grew from the popular social network Facebook with connections made to distant cousins.

Over time the consensus was, that it's a shame that families inevitably meet on sad occasions, such as a funeral, and how nice it would be to gather for a happy occasion. The first step Breid took was to create a Facebook group that only those receiving an invite could join.  For details on how to create a page, visit http://www.facebook.com/groups.  

Various family members began digging out old family photographs and scanning them in for the groups enjoyment, from there Breid began to build on a family tree. Over a 14mth period costings were prepared and as interest grew so did the budget. The outcome was that the family gathered in Tullamore in June 2011 and were able to view a visual of their ancestry.

Breid kindly shared her personal experiences with us; her oldest guest was in their late 80's, the youngest guest a few months old. The entire event was very rewarding for all attendees, it was based upon family branches colour coded and managed centrally. 

Breid feels the popularity would wane, should it be an annual family reunion but will certainly look at doing overseeing it in 5-10years time again.

For our part as the host of your family reunion or clan rally, we have at the hotel a selection of private dining rooms catering for all sizes from small groups right through to very large gatherings, the largest can seat up to 550 people on trestle tables.  In terms of catering we have a whole selection of menus to choose from and are happy to work within budgets.  Click here to see a sample fork buffet menu very similar to what was served at the O'Brien family reunion.  Other options to consider would be finger food or private dining depending on numbers.
