This is James's take on the classic 50’s cocktail the Moscow mule, Ahus is the birthplace of Absolut vodka. Ingredients: 50 ml absolut citron vodka Juice of half a lime Freshly grated ginger 100 ml ginger beer 1 5 cent coin (preferably new) Leave the 5 cent coin, the vodka and fresh lime in a cocktail shaker for 5-10 minutes, half fill with ice, grate in a little fresh ginger and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds. Strain into a tall cocktail glass filled with cracked ice, top up with ginger beer, stir and garnish with lime and ginger. The original Moscow mule was served in a copper cup; the addition of the 5 cent coin imparts that copper tanginess to give this cocktail an authentic flavour.
Taking its inspiration from the aviation cocktail, this cocktail is classy and sophisticated and looks back to the 1980’s and the days of the club class traveller, yet it retains the fantastic flavour of Havana club rum. Ingredients: 50 ml Havana club rum 5m of fresh orange juice 20 ml De kyper Blue Curacao Mumm champagne Combine the rum, blue Curacao and orange juice a Boston shaker with plenty of ice, stir gently to combine the flavors and strain into a cocktail glass, top up with super chilled Mumm Champagne and garnish with a fresh French cherry, this cocktail is crying out for the return of Concorde to the skies.
